Introduction :
Research has shown that family members of patients with intellectual disability are more likely to experience emotional distress because of separation and hospitalization. In Psychiatric Service for Intellectual Disability (PSID), Castle Peak Hospital (CPH), family members expressed their feelings of sadness and lost the bonding with patients. Our staff provided with supportive counselling, explained the daily routine, trainings and introduced the activities in IDACE (Intellectual Disability Activity Centre of Excellence) and provided service pamphlets of PSID and IDACE. However, these interventions were not effective in addressing their psychological needs. Since there are few interventions and best practice guidelines focusing on the nursing care for family members of intellectual disability, our team members would like to improve the service gap and engagement with the family members as well as improve our service quality by following enhancement: 1. Replace pamphlets of PSID and IDACE services by QR codes for easily access 2. IDACE Heart to Heart Guided tour for family members to experience the actual service bimonthly 3. Education talk for managing behavior problems 4. Patients give their art products to family members after the Guided tour
Objectives :
to (1) promote the services of PSID and IDACE, positive image of hospital (3) improve the service quality (4) optimize the experiences of service users (5) meet the psychological needs of family members (6) improve the job satisfaction on supporting and engaging family members
Methodology :
A ‘Pre-test’ vs ‘Post-test’ design was adopted and data collected in 9/2024 and 11/2024 respectively. Subjects were: (1) Family members (2) Staff Period: started from Sept 2024 to ongoing Outcome measures were categorised as: (1) Conduct pre and post tour satisfaction survey for family members and staff (2) Collect Qualitative feedback from family members and staff

1. Satisfaction scores of family members to PSID and IDACE service increased from 5.25/10 to 9.875/10 2. Positive qualitative feedback from family members and staff were collected. 3. Staff job satisfaction scores increased from 3.9/10 to 8.1/10 These innovative approaches were effectively addressed the psychological needs of family members, built therapeutic rapport, improved the satisfaction of family members and staff job satisfaction as well as improved the service quality. Therefore, it should be promoted and applied in PSID, CPH.
