Introduction :
Manual handling is a significant cause of musculoskeletal injuries among nursing and supporting staff, yet opportunities for stretching exercises in the workplace are often limited. Additionally, the high-stress healthcare environment negatively impacts the mental health and resilience of both nursing and supporting staff. Promotion of work-fit culture does help to achieve well-functioning of the organization.
Objectives :
The "Train-The-Trainer" (TTT) program aims: 1)To promote work-fit culture by encouraging stretching exercises before manual tasks, and 2)To cultivate a healthy habit by encouraging staff to make healthier choices before work 3)To reduce musculoskeletal injuries among nursing and supporting staff
Methodology :
The TTT program included: 1)Stretching Exercise Video: A 5-minute demonstration video, accessible on the CND's webpage. 2)Exercise Poster: Visual guides for stretching exercises. 3)Train-The-Trainer Session: A 2-hour session for nursing staff, including demonstrations and return demonstrations of stretching exercises, ensuring clarity and understanding. 4)Sharing and Demonstration on daily exercise by community nurses. 5)Exercise Tools: Thera Band was provided to facilitate staff to perform stretching exercise. As an effective exercise program should be led by professional instructor, physiotherapist was invited as trainer and participated in the demonstration video with CND staff. Exercise posters were distributed to all clinical units, CSSD, and the CNS division after the training.
Result & Outcome :
Results: Forty-two participants, including DOMs, WMs, NO/APNs and senior RNs, attended the TTT program. All participants (100%) found the program useful. Nurses reported that the video was clear and practical with appropriate duration to perform before work. . Conclusion: Post evaluation on the incident of musculoskeletal injuries would be performed to assess the effectiveness of the program in a 6-month interval. Staff feedback would also be collected for further enhancement of the program.
