Introduction :
Pulmonary rehabilitation has established a status of evidence-based therapy for patients with symptomatic COPD. A structural Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program (PRP) was implemented in medical ward in Shatin Hospital since 2020. However, the service was disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic with gradual resumption in early 2023. The physiotherapy outcomes of the PRP from 2023 to October 2024 and its effectiveness were evaluated.
Objectives :
To evaluate the effectiveness of the Physiotherapy intervention to COPD patients enrolled into PRP in a convalescent and rehabilitation hospital.
Methodology :
A retrospective review of Physiotherapy rehabilitation outcomes was performed for the period of January 2023 to October 2024.
Result & Outcome :
Pre- and post- paired t test were adopted to evaluate the patient physical performance. All patients shown improvement in their functional mobility and exercise endurance after the program. The enhanced PRP group achieved superior rehabilitation outcome and reduced length of stay compared to the basic group. All of the outcomes had significant improvement( P<0.001) when compare the in-patient/ GDH(Geriatric Day Hospital) discharge outcome to the baseline data. It was observed that the training effect were well maintained or slightly improved by programme completion.
