Introduction :
Sub-specialty emergency ward is high demand of bedside procedure to stabilize the patient's condition such as chest drain insertion, etc. These procedures need to be performed quickly and efficiently to ensure standard of care. The nursing team would like to set up a resident-designed procedure cart to minimize the disturbing on assisting the bedside procedure (time-in and time out process), increase the efficiency and enhance the continue monitoring of patient's condition during the bedside procedure.
Objectives :
To implement the resident-designed procedure cart ready for use and facilitate the smoothness of bedside procedure To prevent the nurse, who assisting the bedside procedure leaving the patient during the bedside procedure. To ensure the nurse assisting the bedside procedure continue monitor the time-in/ time-out and document the patient condition accurately throughout the bedside procedure.
Methodology :
1. Prepare the resident-designed procedure cart with cue card for bedside procedure consumable 2. Modification of routine such as refill to prepare trolley at night shift (less busy hours) for procedures next day 3. Weekly routine for checking (consumable and expiry date) the procedure cart consumables 4. Daily routine cleansing of the procedure cart
Result & Outcome :
1. Enhanced the efficiency of the bedside procedure. 2. Speed up the bedside procedure preparation time during the emergency situation, saved around 15 min in preparing the procedure's consumable and equipment 3. Ensured adequate procedure consumables ready for use in order to ensure the smoothness of the procedure 4. Minimize the disturbing of the assisting nurse during the bedside procedure.
