Introduction :
As healthcare professional provides high quality of resuscitation skills is essential competence for clinical practice. During resuscitation, healthcare professional provides high quality resuscitation skills to enhance the patient’s survival. Therefore, as healthcare professional should be kept updated resuscitation knowledge & trained skillfully in order to facilitate the resuscitation process. In current situation, our nursing staff with registered nurse (RN) rank are not all attended ACLS training and there is lack of in-hospital training regarding adult resuscitation regularly.
Objectives :
1. To enhance all RN’ s knowledge in adult resuscitation. 2. To ensure all RN can provide standard & quality resuscitation skills during adult resuscitation.
Methodology :
Our team members (ANC & APNs) discuss & plan the contents of the program. The contents of the program are including knowledge of adult resuscitation, the operations of chest compression system (stryker-LUCAS 3), defibrillator (mindray-BeneHeart D3), portable mechanical ventilator (Drager-Oxylog 3000 plus) and invasive mechanical ventilator (MAQUET-SERVO-air). The training materials are prepared that including PowerPoint presentation slide of adult resuscitation in hospital setting, checklists of the operation for portable mechanical ventilator (Drager-Oxylog 3000 plus) and invasive mechanical ventilator (MAQUET-SERVO-air). Also, the skill & knowledge assessment form for chest compression system (stryker-LUCAS 3) and the checklist for operation and perform testing of defibrillator (mindray-BeneHeart D3) are applied for checking the RN’s knowledge and skills of the related machines. For the knowledge assessment, one set of questionnaire with ten questions that related to adult resuscitation are prepared in google form for pre- & post-assessments. The enhancement program commenced from October, 2023 & finished in May, 2024. The logistics of the enhancement program are firstly, APNs requested all RNs should pre-watching of “Demo Video on Guiding Principles for Performing Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation in Suspected or Confirmed COVID-19 Patients at Isolation Ward” that prepared by HKWC Resuscitation Committee. Secondly, APNs arranged small group of 1-3 RN during Saturday or Sunday to deliver the information of the operations on the above listed machines. Afterward, the RNs are requested for return demonstration of the operations on the above listed machines. Thirdly, RN are requested to complete pre-assessment of knowledge in adult resuscitation, then self-studied the PowerPoint presentation slide of adult resuscitation in hospital setting. Afterward, the RNs are requested to complete post-assessment of knowledge in adult resuscitation.
Result & Outcome :
Total 22 RNs of ward B6 & K21C were recruited mandatory for the program. All RNs could 100% return demonstrated the operations on the above listed machines. In the assessment of the knowledge in adult resuscitation in hospital setting, positive result was noted on the pre- & post-assessment.
