Introduction :
The increasing complexity of patient care in cardiac and thoracic surgery necessitates continuous education for nursing staff. This program aims to facilitate newly-joined nursing staff’s adaptation to CTS specialty and enhance nursing competencies in managing cardiac and thoracic diseases, focusing on the latest evidence-based practices. By providing lectures in various aspects, we aim to promote patient safety and enhance competency of our nursing staff, maintain high standard of patient care in our department.
Objectives :
1. To provide an overview of the principles and management strategies for various cardiac and thoracic conditions.
2. To equip nursing staff with the skills to monitor and care for patients undergoing cardiac and thoracic surgeries.
3. To enhance understanding of emergency situations related to cardiothoracic conditions and complications such as tension pneumothorax and cardiac tamponade.
4. To promote interdisciplinary collaboration in patient management and improve communication within the healthcare team.
5.To enhance the professional development of senior nurses by fostering a culture of knowledge and sharing through lecturing
Methodology :
The program utilize a blended learning approach, incorporating classroom and online lectures conducting by experienced doctors and senior nurses in our department.
Result & Outcome :
There are 23 lectures in total. 11 lectures were completed from late November to early January. Total nurse participants 63, with 79% classroom participants and 21% online participants. By the feedback collected from post lecture evaluation, most of the participants showed satisfactory and gave positive feedback.
