Introduction :
The China's International Hospital Accreditation (CIHA) is scheduled for 2025 in the United Christian Hospital (UCH). As the first internationally recognized hospital accreditation standard of our country, CIHA encompasses hospital functions, management, patient safety, medical services and healthcare quality. In preparation for this accreditation, this project aimed to raise awareness of CIHA among staff, and enhance ward nursing service quality and safety.
Objectives :
1. Ward nursing staffs are well prepared for the coming CIHA in 2Q 2025.
2. Nursing service quality and safety are enhanced in the acute medical ward.
Methodology :
1.Bi-weekly Sharing Sessions:
>Bi-weekly 15-minute sharing sessions were held at the ward nursing station after lunch, with participation from around 15 nursing staff and students each time.
>Topics focused on clinical updates and evidence-based nursing practices (Including Ventilators, Hypothermia Management , Transfusion, NGT feeding, PI management, Physical restraint, Resuscitation, Hyperglycemia Management).
>Three display screens (one 43” and two 32”) displayed presentation materials to ensure visibility for all attendees.
>All materials were uploaded online, and QR-code were made for convenient access and review.
2. CIHA Forum Highlights Sharing:
>Nursing staffs of varying seniority were arranged to attend the hospital CIHA forums and invited to share key highlights in ward communication platform (WhatsApp group, HA-Chat).
3.Audits by electronic methods:
>After related sharing sessions, audits were conducted by ward Advanced Practice Nurses (APNs) and Clinical Teacher (CT), by using department endorsed “Return Demonstration Checklists of Medical Equipment” and Nursing Services Division audit forms.
>Checklists and audit forms were uploaded on the ward iPad. Paperless audits were conducted by E-pen.
Result & Outcome :
Four sharing sessions have been conducted on topics of ventilators, hypothermia management and hyperglycemia management. Eight more sessions are planned in the next four months, covering topics like infusion pumps, blood transfusion, pressure injury prevention, and resuscitation techniques.
Different audits are in progress, targeting all nursing staffs to ensure compliance and competency in medical equipment use, and proper nursing practices.
In concluded, the project successfully raised interest and awareness of CIHA among nursing colleagues. Also, by electronic audit, it saves time for supervisors, and more environmental friendly, while comparing with the paper form. By continually monitoring the audits result, and promptly feedback to nursing colleagues. The project is believed has positive impact on the nursing service quality and safety.
