Introduction :
Alerting people to properly care for a patient’s AVF/AVG and prevent injury is challenging. Wall-mounted paper signage is insufficient to alert healthcare workers. Therefore, an alert sticker and signage are made by the Yan Chai Hospital renal unit to help nurses highlight the attention of AVF or AVG. Then, the basic knowledge of care to AVF and AVG and the viewpoint on the alert sticker of medical nurses are investigated.
Objectives :
To enhance proper care of renal patient with AVF/AVG in clinical settings with the use of unique sticker and signage
Methodology :
* The renal unit of Yan Chai Hospital has designed a unique pink alert sticker and an alert signage to increase awareness and knowledge of AVF/AVG protection. They were distributed to medical wards and staff were educated on how to apply since January 2024.
* To evaluate, an online questionnaire with 9 questions was created and uploaded to Google from June to mid-July 2024. The full marks were 50 and the passing marks were 30. It was distributed to medical nurses through a QR code.
Result & Outcome :
* 103 participants took part in the questionnaire. 99% of them scored 40 or more.
* Most of them agreed that the alert sticker and the signage could alert proper care and reinforce right knowledge about AVF/AVG.
* Sticker and signage have very low risk of damaging the AVF or AVG. Besides, they are easy to apply and not costly to produce.
* The eye-catching unique sticker rose their awareness and proper care to AVF/AVG.
* NO incidence of AVF/AVG damage happened upon in-patient period with the sticker and the signage.
