Introduction :
Nowadays, using telecommunication technology can provide an opportunity to engage with a variety of audiences to provide education, information and support in a timely manner. Webinars are one such format that allow real presentations by speakers or experts that can be accessed online, from people’s homes or other convenient locations, i.e. Old-age homes. In addition, webinars are one type of telecommunication technologies that can deliver an educational or instructional seminar over the internet, with the opportunity to interact with the presenters and other participants. Furthermore, it provides a chance for the organizations to grant participants access to reliable and useful information at home, in the workplace or other mobile locations, minimizing the impact of barriers to access due to geographic issue, time, social or health circumstance. In 2023, Community Care Service (CCS) Team undertook a program of work to design and evaluate the outcomes of four educational webinars to the health care workers (HCW) at RCHEs in Hong Kong West Cluster (HKWC). Four webinars were targeted: Wound care; skin care; care on patient with CAPD and care on patient with drain care.
Objectives :
(1) to reach the HCWs and engage with them by providing relevant evidence-based information from the presenters;
(2) to provide the opportunity for the HCWs to shape the webinar by submission of questions;
(3) to provide practical strategies, i.e. information resource sheet, addressing the webinar topic after the delivery; and
(4) to strengthen the HCWs’ knowledge and skills
Methodology :
Webinar promotion strategies were included direct telephone invitation and printed reminder to the HCWs at RCHEs. In order to meet and tailor to their learning needs, they were firstly invited to vote the preferable webinar topic before delivery. In addition, webinars included a series of presentations, a panel discussion and an interactive component where HCWs posed questions under a pseudonym to the panel. Evaluation included descriptive analysis of online metrics and a post-event voluntary survey covering experience and satisfaction with the webinar format, topics, including the relevance of core content and interest in future webinars.
Result & Outcome :
A total of 230 HCWs participated in the webinars (57% of 405 registrations), and 212 post-event surveys were completed by HCWs (92%). Overall, 95% indicated that webinar content was relevant to their interests and needs. The majority (82%) had not participated in a webinar before, and 98% of HCWs were interested in participating in future webinars.
