Introduction :
Getting a seasonal influenza vaccine is the best way to prevent the seasonal influenza and its complications. There are multiple strains of influenza virus which will predominate from one year to the next year. Therefore, the need for yearly flu vaccination is the utmost importance for us to reduce the risk of getting sick as well as to avoid severe disease from infection with the influenza virus. To boost our staff’s immunity to against influenza infection, TWH mobile vaccination team has been launched various vaccination promotion strategies to encourage the staff to receive seasonal influenza vaccine in 2024/25.
Objectives :
-To clarifying staff about the Myths of flu vaccines to boost the seasonal influenza vaccination uptake rates. -To boost our TWH staff to receive influenza vaccination
Methodology :
Correct the staff myths about the seasonal influenza vaccine -Invited TWH Infection Control Officer to clarify the misconceptions about the seasonal influenza vaccine -Encourage staff to express their concerns about the influenza vaccination -Face to face education about the benefits of influenza vaccine -Issues of Infection Control Express to explain the myths of seasonal influenza vaccine -Invited the vaccinated staff to share their post-vaccination experience to the non-vaccinated staff whom with doubt Promotion via different channels -Early promulgation of the seasonal flu vaccination amongst TWH staff since the Hand hygiene promotion month in May. -Post-up the Seasonal Vaccination poster and tailored-made TWH GVP promotion poster at eye-catching notice boards, and disseminate the updated information related to TWH GVP uptake rate and photos to all staff via email or TWH ICT websites -Visit all clinical and non-clinical staff meeting, provide on-site influenza vaccination on time as requested -Identify all new employed, eligible and potential vaccine recipient staff to provide influenza vaccination service Vaccination depot / Mobile vaccination service -Satellite vaccination depot setup at high-travel flow area (i.e. staff canteen, OPD) to facilitate staff to receive influenza vaccination. -TWH mobile vaccination team provide on-site vaccination service for clinical and non-clinical staff before or after meeting. -Increase the frequency of mobile vaccination service to facilitate staff to receive flu jab. Influencer staff -Invite the most influencer staff be a GVP ambassador, act as a role model to promote seasonal influenza vaccination in their departments -Establish a positive momentum and alter staff behavior to receive influenza vaccination Incentive gift -Use the incentive gift, awards and arrange the lucky draw to encourage and attract staff to receive flu jab
Result & Outcome :
Results in the year of 2024/2025, TWH was significantly increased the staff influenza vaccination rate to 65.32 % among healthcare workers as compared with the vaccination of 55.23% in 2023/24 and 36.41% in 2022/23. Conclusion with the understanding the safety and efficacy of influenza vaccination, as well as correct the myths about seasonal influenza vaccine, Tung Wah hospital has achieved the new highest uptake rate in the influenza vaccine coverage among healthcare workers in 2024/25.
