Introduction :
Influenza poses a significant risk within healthcare settings, making high staff vaccination rates crucial for patient safety and staff well-being. This abstract highlights the successful strategies employed by our hospitals to maintain consistently high staff influenza vaccination rates with awards among non-acute hospitals over the past five years.
Objectives :
1) To address barriers to vaccination uptake; (2) To foster a culture of vaccination; (3) To enhance staff engagement
Methodology :
(1) To address barriers to vaccination uptake through the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) cycle 1.1) Plan: Barriers to vaccination uptake and related objectives were identified. 1.2) Do: Targeted interventions were implemented to foster a culture of vaccination and to enhance staff engagement. 1.3) Check: We regularly monitored the vaccination rates, analyzed the data trends and collected staff feedback. 1.4) Act: We yearly refined our approach based on the findings to sustain the high engagement levels. (2) To foster a culture of vaccination 2.1) Securing top management support from HGC, HCE, COS and GMs to emphasize its importance. 2.2) Addressing ethical concerns by framing vaccination as a means of protecting both staff and patients. 2.3) Encouraging teamwork to create a positive and enjoyable atmosphere around vaccination initiatives through promotion activities such as thankful day, referrer rewarding scheme and lucky draw. 2.4) Inviting staff to be the GVP ambassadors to share the joy of achievement. (3) To Adopt the Kahn Model of Employee Engagement, which emphasizes three key strategies: 3.1) Enhancing cognitive engagement by connecting vaccination efforts to patient care as a meaningful work through NTEC YouTube Channel, ceremony, slogan and posters. 3.2) Enhancing emotional engagement by ensuring psychological safety for staff to express concerns and suggestions through vaccination talk and staff meeting. 3.3) Enhancing physical engagement by creating a dynamic injection environment through GVP round with management and department head, injection booth and WhatsApp booking.
Result & Outcome :
Results: Over the ten-year period, BBH, SCH and SH all showed a significant improvement in staff vaccination rates. BBH increased from 20% in 2015 to 100% for three consecutive years from 2021 to 2024. SCH rose nearly 70 % in 2015 to over 93% in 2023/2024. SH even rose 80% from 2015 and reached to 95.5% in 2023/24.
Conclusions: Our hospitals’ sustained high staff influenza vaccination rates reflect the success of our comprehensive strategies focused on engagement, communication, convenience, and continuous improvement. By prioritizing staff vaccination, we have not only protected our workforce and patients but also be the vital role to promulgate influenza prevention in healthcare settings.
