Introduction :
Introduction:
Overactive active bladder (OAB) with urinary frequency and leakage is unbearable which have great impact on patients’ daily living, most of the patients already underwent behavioral and pharmacological therapies, however, the symptoms are obstinate to treat. Another supplementary treatment: Acupuncture with Electro-Stimulation (AES) maybe another way out for patients in alleviating their OAB symptoms.
Objectives :
To evaluate the effectiveness of AES on OAB patients
Methodology :
Patients were recruited for weekly AES (total 8 weeks) and follow up session at post 4th and 8th treatment was conducted by continence nurse for symptoms evaluation. The urinary status was being assessed by IPSS, OAB-V8, ICIQ, one-hour pad test, urodynamic studies, and bladder diary.
Result & Outcome :
From June 2022 to November 2024, total 24 patients (F: 20, M:4) with mean age 62.8 were reviewed and SPSS 20.0 was used for data analysis. Daytime urinary voiding interval after post 4th & 8th AES was increased 51.9 and 61.9 mins (P<0.001), subjective improvement rate was 38.3% to 42.7% respectively. For pre & post treatment measurement on residue urine volume, 65.4% was reduced from 91 to 31.5 ml (P=0.041) in term of better bladder emptying. For urine leakage episode captured from cystometrogram (CMG), it had been reduced 58.8% (0.5 to 0.7 time). Total IPSS score shown 45.2% improvement on lowering the symptoms occurrence points from 18.8 to 10.3 (P=0.058), in the study, zero incident was reported.

AES had satisfactory treatment rate up to 60% and patients’ subjective improvement rate up to 45%,
AES statistically shown significant in lengthen patients ‘s voiding interval and better bladder emptying.
Regarding self-rating in IPSS score, clinical result shown improvement on symptoms
