Introduction :
Medical social collaboration (MSC) and community partnership are pivotal in addressing today's complex healthcare challenges. With the abundance of community resources available today, engaging and empowering healthcare professionals in navigating these resources and planning services is crucial for improving access to primary healthcare.
Objectives :
1. To raise awareness and enhance KWC staff knowledge regarding community resources and support services
2. To equip KWC staff with the skills necessary to initiate community care service referrals for patients in-need
3. To promote medical social collaboration (MSC) within KWC
Methodology :
KWC Community Health Care took the lead by launching “MedicoSocialtrio (MStrio) Program − Making your life Spectacular” for all KWC staff, in collaboration with the Medical Social Service Unit, Occupational Therapy Department and Physiotherapy Department in PMH, as well as various government departments and community partners. The comprehensive program includes a series of quarterly activities throughout 2024 and comprises “MStrio 1: Listen More − Webinar Series on Community Resources”, “MStrio 2: Learn More − e-Learning Course on Community Care Services” and “MStrio 3: See More − Community Partner Guided Tours”.
Accreditation for Continuing medical education (CME), continuing nursing education (CNE) and continuous professional development (CPD) were sought for MStrio 1 and 2. Electronic self-administered surveys were employed to evaluate participants’ competence in navigating community resources, investigate ideas of medical-social collaboration and to collect feedback on the program design for each activity. Pre- and post-test were conducted for MStrio 2 to assess participants’ knowledge in community care services and compared using paired sample t-test.
Result & Outcome :
There were 1191 attendees for MStrio 1, with 747 completed the survey. Only 172 (23%) and 244 (32.7%) considered themselves knowledgeable and competent in navigating various community resources before attending the webinar. 673 (90.1%) agreed that the webinar increased their knowledge, awareness of community resources/ support services, and their understanding of importance of MSC. A total of 728 colleagues completed MStrio 2 as of 15 December 2024, and there was a statistically significant difference between pre-test (mean±SD: 5.5±1.7) and post-test (8.4±0.6), p < 0.001. The number of registrations for MStrio 3 surpassed the available capacity for all four guided tours. 87 colleagues joined MStrio 3 with 100% satisfaction.
The positive outcomes and high registration rate for the MStrio Program demonstrated enhanced staff engagement and MSC in KWC.
