Introduction :
Attracting frontline nurses to engage in research and evidence-based practice (EBP) is crucial for improving patient care and fostering a culture of inquiry in healthcare settings. However, nurses often find research and EBP less attractive and interesting to them. To tackle this, we used innovative means to attract them to be involved in this area by establishing O&G Innovative & Best Practice Team in PYNEH.
Objectives :
1. To equip nurses with the knowledge of EBP.

2. To improve clinical practices based on the best available evidences.

3. To provide a platform for nurses to share their knowledge and experiences in research and EBP.

4. To foster evidence-based culture in the department.
Methodology :
16 enthusiastic O&G nurses volunteered to join the team in June 2023 and the team is leaded by ANC(Midwifery). Team members have varying levels of expertise in research and EBP. Some are novice and some are competent in this area. Through organizing literature search workshop in collaboration with hospital librarians and basic EBP training, team members were equipped with literature searching skills, EBP knowledge and literature appraisal techniques.
Result & Outcome :
A series of EBP activities were organized by the team.

1. Best practice short videos were produced by the team for promoting evidence-based practices in an interesting way, e.g. use of VR for labour pain relief, music intervention and breastfeeding, cough trick for IM injection. Total 266 view counts were obtained from O&G nurses and each nurse had viewed the videos at least twice on average.

2. Periodical mass emails summarizing the latest researches in O&G were sent to all O&G nurses to keep them updated with the latest trend in the field.

3. EBP/Research Topics Competition was organized to recruit topics from the frontline nurses which they have queries in daily work. Total 17 topics were collected. Final four winning topics were selected by COS, DOM and MC. All O&G nurses could vote for the topic that they most wanted to know the answer and 44% of them had voted. This competition aimed to arouse nurses’ awareness and get them involved in EBP.

4. The team is now conducting EBP projects for answering the clinical questions collected from the competition and will produce short videos for disseminating the project findings.
