Introduction :
CAR T-cell therapy is a type of cellular therapy in which patient's T cells are collected by apheresis and genetically modified to kill cancer cells. Prince of Wales Hospital is one of the two adult CAR T-cell therapy centres providing CAR T-cell therapy for some lymphoma and acute leukaemia since year of 2022. In the treatment journey, adequate CD3+ cells is the key factor for successful manufacturing of CAT T-cell. A Cellular Therapy and Transplant Nurse (CT Nurse) is an experienced haematology-oncology nurse and competent in apheresis collection and playing the key role in effective coordination and apheresis collection so as to facilitate treatment process
Objectives :
(1) to establish a standardised and streamlined pathway for the CAR T-cell therapy journey (2) to provide efficient and safe apheresis collection of T-cell (3) to minimize unplanned admission and adverse events due to apheresis collection
Methodology :
A retrospective review of the medical and nursing record of apheresis procedure for CAR T-cell therapy since starting of the service was done to evaluate the efficiency and quality of apheresis collection.
Result & Outcome :
Since the CAR T-cell therapy in Prince of Wales Hospital started in Dec 2022 till Dec 2024, there were total 22 cases proceed to apheresis collection and all of the patients achieved required CD3+ cell count for CAR T-cell manufacturing. However, patients receiving CAR T-cell therapy are usually in later stage of disease, close monitoring of patient and disease status and coordination for bridging therapy are essential to the treatment journey.
