Introduction :
Cannulation of Arteriovenous Graft (AVG) is an ongoing practice for haemodialysis patients in TSWH all along. Since various tubings will be hanging around patient's arm during the dialysis and problems like dislodgement of blood, slipping out of the insertion site, difficult to clean the blood stain onthe splintage if dripped onto it, etc. All these may affect the process of haemodialysis. With the provision of a tailor-made splintage which will help anchoring the tubing more securely during the process of haemodialysis.
Objectives :
To enhance the safety in the process of haemodialysis for patients with AVG by designing and fabricating a new splintage.
To reduce the slip out of insertion site or issue of dislodgement of blood during movement of patient's arm.
To enhance ease of cleansing even if blood has been dripped and stained onto the splintage.
Methodology :
Various designs of the splintage have been tried; as in the selection of thermoplastic of the splintage, the design of the splintage, the use of double loop straps as to anchor the tubings. Feedbacks from various patients and nursing colleagues in the Renal Dialysis Unit in TSWH were constantly collected.
Result & Outcome :
After few months of trial, a design was finalized and ready to use for this type of patient in TSWH. Both feedbacks from nursing colleagues in the Renal Dialysis Unit and patients were positive.
