Introduction :
Forensic Community Psychiatric Nursing Services (FCPNS) in Castle Peak Hospital is a unique community psychiatric nursing service provided by the sole territory-wide Department of Forensic Psychiatry in Hong Kong. It was set up in 1996 to provide community psychiatric nursing care to mentally disordered offenders discharged from Siu Lam Psychiatric Centre, for supervision on mental state and compliance, psychoeducation and counselling, as well as prevention of re-offending behavior. In view of uniqueness of this service, limited research data is available on the characteristics of the service users of FCPNS.
Objectives :
1.Examining the distribution of service users of Forensic Community Psychiatric Nursing Services between violent crime group and non-violent crime group
2.Illustrating the descriptive characteristics of the subjects in the violent and non-violent crime group

All service users under the care of Forensic Community Psychiatric Nursing Services during the period from 1 January 2009 to 31 December 2023 were recruited as subjects. Subjects with missing data would be excluded from the study. Subjects were classified into two groups with violent and non-violent crimes. Retrospective review on the medical records of the subjects was carried out.
Result & Outcome :
2638 subjects were recruited according to the selection and exclusion criteria. 1574 (60%) subjects were classified to violent crime group. 1064 (40%) subjects were classified to non-violent crime group. The descriptive data on genders, ages, psychiatric diagnoses (classified by International Classification of Diseases 10th Revision, ICD-10), living districts, status of special care system, length of service and reason for service termination were obtained and illustrated under the two subject groups.
