The Current Landscape and Roadblocks of Artificial Intelligence in Gastroenterology – Global Perspectives

Speaker 08:45 AM - 10:15 AM (Asia/Hong_Kong) 2025/05/28 00:45:00 UTC - 2025/05/28 02:15:00 UTC
Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly transforming gastroenterology by offering the potential to significantly enhance patient care. For hospitals management and society, this patient benefit needs to be associated with broadened healthcare access-irrespective of patients' economic or geographical barriers- and improvement of the cost-effectiveness of existing healthcare systems and ultimately reducing overall healthcare cost and burdens. The gastrointestinal field is at the forefront of this revolution, with emerging evidence supported by high-quality randomized trials, particularly in modalities such as colonoscopy and endoscopy, which are pivotal for cancer detection and prevention.
Despite these promising advances, substantial challenges remain that hinder the translation of innovative ideas into clinical practice. Key obstacles include the lack of a rapid and adaptable regulatory framework and legal flexibility necessary to keep pace with technological progress. Moreover, there is a growing concern regarding potential drawbacks of AI, such as the risk of deskilling physicians-a phenomenon which has been observed with automated piloting in aviation.
This presentation will provide a comprehensive overview of the current state of AI in gastroenterology, offering insights from a gastroenterologist's perspective and addressing both the transformative opportunities and the critical roadblocks that must be navigated for successful implementation.

Bridging Tomorrow: JCIMEDS’s Innovative Strategies for Reshaping Postgraduate Medical Education

Speaker 08:45 AM - 10:15 AM (Asia/Hong_Kong) 2025/05/28 00:45:00 UTC - 2025/05/28 02:15:00 UTC
The landscape of postgraduate medical education (PGME) is undergoing a fundamental transformation, propelled by rapid technological innovation and the growing necessity for lifelong learning in healthcare. JCIMED stands at the vanguard of this educational revolution, pioneering an integrated model that synergizes cutting-edge technology, competency-based medical education (CBME), and comprehensive faculty development programs to redefine physician training for the 21st century.

Our approach fundamentally reimagines medical education through the strategic deployment of immersive technologies. Virtual reality simulations create realistic clinical scenarios, artificial intelligence enables adaptive learning pathways, and advanced analytics provide personalized feedback - moving far beyond traditional didactic methods. These technological solutions foster deep experiential learning while maintaining patient safety, aligning perfectly with heutagogical principles that emphasize self-determined, needs-based education. Crucially, we embed digital literacy throughout our curriculum to ensure technology enhances rather than obstructs clinical learning.

JCIMED's competency-based framework ensures these technological advancements translate into tangible clinical capabilities. Our multi-dimensional assessment system evaluates not just medical knowledge, but also critical communication skills, leadership qualities, and the ability to work in interdisciplinary teams - competencies essential for modern healthcare delivery. Workplace-based assessments and situated learning methodologies create authentic bridges between classroom theory and clinical practice.

The success of this transformation hinges on our innovative faculty development programs. We are redefining the educator's role from content deliverer to learning architect, equipping faculty with advanced competencies in educational technology, data-driven mentoring, and the facilitation of reflective practice. Our train-the-trainer initiatives create cascading networks of digitally-fluent educators who can sustain this educational transformation.

By systematically focusing on stakeholder engagement, resource optimization, and organizational change management, we aim to achieve a robust and future-proof PGME system. This system cultivates physicians who can thrive in the evolving healthcare landscape - professionals who exemplify the essential qualities of the 21st century: the capacity to continuously learn, unlearn, and relearn

Team-Based Learning in Healthcare Service – Challenges and Opportunities

Speaker 08:45 AM - 10:15 AM (Asia/Hong_Kong) 2025/05/28 00:45:00 UTC - 2025/05/28 02:15:00 UTC
Effective and safe healthcare service has to rely on collaboration between various clinical disciplines as a well-coordinated team. Both undergraduate and professional education nowadays has put more and more emphasis on team-based learning. Evidence has shown team-training interventions in various forms can improve teamwork processes and associate with improvements in patient safety. On the other hand, dramatically increasing service demand, manpower constraint, hardware availability, etc impose challenges for conducting effective and adequate team training. Being a major service provider in healthcare service in Hong Kong, the Hospital Authority is always committed to quality training to ensure patient safety. In this presentation, we aim to propose different strategies aiming to expand the coverage, uphold the quality, and enhance the effectiveness of team-based learning to our colleagues while ensuring the sustainability.
