Plenary III – Healthcare Management: What Could be Done for Better Healthcare?

Dr. Garcia Elorrio will deliver a comprehensive presentation focusing on the critical issue of patient safety, with particular attention to the unique challenges faced by low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Despite the growing body of data highlighting the severity of the issue, there remains a significant gap in action and implementation. Dr. Garcia Elorrio will emphasize that while the evidence is clear, efforts to reduce preventable harm have not kept pace, particularly in resource-limited settings.
He will then showcase a variety of practical strategies and targeted interventions that have the potential to make meaningful contributions to improving patient safety outcomes. These may include capacity-building efforts, system-level reforms, and patient-centered approaches tailored to the needs and constraints of LMICs.
In addition, Dr. Garcia Elorrio will highlight the importance of implementation science as a powerful lever to bridge the gap between knowledge and practice. He will discuss how this field can be used to enhance the uptake of evidence-based interventions and ensure they are effectively integrated into healthcare systems.
Finally, he will elaborate on the significant contributions of ISQua (the International Society for Quality in Health Care) in advancing patient safety globally, especially in fostering collaboration, research, and policy development in LMICs.
